If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

So today my brother sends me an email article called “How To Be a Great Photographer (and Maybe Everything Else)”… of course I dive right in. It was written by James Altucher about an interview he had with Chase Jarvis…I follow Chase on social media as he’s the founder of Creative Live, and creator of Best Camera which was the first photo app to share images direct to social networks. Wow, major accomplishments right? And based on what I know of him, just a cool, creative, and dynamic entrepreneur.
Here’s what moved me in the article, as Chase put it… “More important than technique. More important than equipment. More important than the angle or the sunlight or the details of the photo was simply the art of connection.Two people connecting can create a work of art. Nothing else.” I love this. A connection is everything, in every interaction. So, I started thinking about my clients and how I do, in fact, instantly connect with each of them. They have to believe that I will show the best of them, otherwise their reluctance shows. With a small child, they don’t care about the picture but they do assess whether or not they want to hang with me. I start a shoot on their level (height-wise too) to make that direct eye connection, to ask them about what they love to play with, and to show them that I’m silly, fun, and that taking their picture will be like playing together. I will make animal noises, jump around the room, ask them to show me their best funny face…and I show them mine. Does that make me a great photographer? I think it’s a huge part of it…I want to show the real person, the genuine giggle.
I absolutely love capturing the precious little details of a newborn baby…but what happens after the shoot? How are my clients showing off their images? Sadly most leave with the digital images and then are so wrapped with life as a new mom or dad that the images often stay on the USB drive with hopes that there will be time to create display pieces. Well, the more seasoned parents know that the time for these projects doesn’t make itself available. So let’s take your newborn shoot to the next level and create stunning wall art and albums which are lifetime keepsakes.
Make her this HAPPY for Mother’s Day…there’s no better gift than the perfect faces of her little ones. Email or call for special photography packages only available this Mother’s Day. Sessions are limited!
